What if a building could feel like a film?
This concept proposes a new Cinémathèque for Ottawa — a cultural institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing Canada's film archives, developed in response to Library and Archives Canada's decentralization initiatives. The design takes its inspiration from Michelangelo Antonioni's L'Eclisse — a film defined by mood, stillness, and the charged space between moments.
That cinematic language becomes architecture. Light moves through the building the way it moves through a frame. Spaces unfold in sequence, drawing visitors through a carefully choreographed experience. The result is a cultural environment where film history is not just stored, but felt — where archive and atmosphere exist in the same breath.
A civic landmark for Ottawa and a home for Canadian cinema.
